Cycle Syncing 101
These four sessions are in service of building your foundational base around understanding and knowing your own personal cycle. The average woman’s cycle is 28 days, however each body offers a unique experience and expression of this cycle. We are mirrors of the macrocosm — four seasons, four phases of the moon, four elements, four quadrants… there are many phenomenons in nature that reflect this inner bodily experience in an exterior way. My aim with these four sessions is providing a deeper understanding of this beautiful innate process, and how our bodies and minds are better suited to thrive if we work with the cycle, rather than against it.
Western culture often purports the rhythm of a masculine 24-hour cycle, rather than a feminine 28-day cycle. We are not meant to BE the same everyday, let alone work, exercise, eat, and enjoy life the same everyday. Our hormones are a guide to living—finding a rhythm and flow to follow that comes from within.
Each session includes herbal tea, discussion, a mini guide e-book for every phase, postures specific to guide you through the month, and a closing prompt to frame your week/phase until our next session.
Session 1 : The Descent
The bleed. This phase of the cycle can be considered the first days, from where we begin—from Winter. Hormones like progesterone and estrogen drop to their lowest levels, and so does our energy. We are in the darkest days, similar to a New Moon where there is no light. This is the time of release, turning the energy inward, and also of the death & rebirth cycle. The left and right hemispheres of the brain are at their most communicative time, where the nerve connections between these two supportive systems are least contrasting and most collaborative.
Session 2 : The Return
Phew, the exhale. Coming out from this dark moon time is invigorating and enlivening to all systems within us. This is our waxing moon season. However, it’s a climb to the peak again, so we must remember that we are slowly crawling out of this depleted state of shedding and now we are rebuilding our hormone reserve. This time is like our Spring. Sprouts begin to appear and new life pops up around us, and so does our motivation, spark for life, and inspiration for creativity. This is the time to allow hope to flow, possibility to inspire us, and for renewal to restore.
Session 3 : The Bloom
Our fertile window! Full moon days! This is peak summer, right as the flowers have fully blossomed open. This is the time that our energy typically points us outward—our social life feels high priority, as our confidence and general inner glow intensifies during these days. This part of the cycle reflects our fullness, our magnetism and our connection with the world around us. Our perception of ourselves can really shine during these days, making it an overall fertile time to foster relationships, creative projects, and our openness to the ways in which blooming naturally occurs for us.
Session 4 : The Closing
The beloved luteal, or premenstrual, phase. This Autumnal season of the cycle certainly receives plenty of negative publicity—the symptoms of bloating, cramping, moodiness, and a general sense of downward movement. However, the reframing around this portion of your cycle is one of discerning your boundaries, recognizing your sensitivities as strength, and harvesting all that has been planted throughout the month. The waning moon time invites us to begin turning our attention inward. We are invited to use our sensitivity to guide us towards what IS nourishing to us. What aligns with the body and soul’s needs during these days? As it can change each month, this attunement to the subtle is necessary for feeding our deepest needs, using the wisdom that arises at this time.
